SHAMEFUL WORKPLACE BULLYING!

Here is a letter I have recieved from a reader and I am happy to publish this first up as a means of starting a discussion on the subject of workplace bullying, name and shame, but make sure your facts are right!

If given the contact details I will give the establishments a follow up call and report on their reactions/explanations, as they are given to me.

We all have the right to work in a safe place, I'm in my cave somewhere in St Kilda, one out, but having worked in many different environments I know some just do it so wrong!

I have also been an employer, and I always considered staff amenity crucial, didn't pay a lot, but generally we had fun and progress!

What type of stand over bullshit is this!

The bloke reckons he's Michael Schumacker, vroom, vroom...is he spinning my wheels, taking the piss, or is he fir dinkum?

I suppose the only way we will find out is if I publish his deserved highlighting of this type of workplace bullying! Will you stand behind my support?

Bottomline is, the nasty dude will get a slap on the wrist...what think you?

Has such a thing happened to you are happy to put your name and documentation to?

Here is my readers dilemma...

This is what occurred this morning.

It may or may not be of any interest to you.

Background is that I received a call from Mr Barry Daniels of Calvary-Bethlehem Hospital, Caulfield on 19/01/11 around 3.45pm asking me whether I am available to see him for an interview that afternoon.

I told him I am but am reliant on Public Transport. He asked if 4.30pm would be ok? I said that should be fine, see you then.

Turned up (on time) and had the interview and said that he was going to give me a go. I was happy about his decision. Asked me to come in on Saturday and Sunday which I replied, that’s fine. I did both shifts.

He added at the end of the interview that he rang me late to “see how I’d react”!

The head-chef who was my immediate supervisor said she was happy with me.

My job was kitchen hand (which I’ve never done), washing pots and pans etc., mopping floors etc.

On Sunday afternoon Barry dropped by and asked how I was going , told him ok, he then said “you exhausted”?, I replied, “pretty much”, he said, “good”. I then asked whether I would be required Monday. He said no, as we have not done the rosters yet. I said ok.

Around 10am of 24/01/11, I received a call from Barry asking whether I could come in at short notice , “we need you there in an hour’.

As I had made an appointment, I had to decline but offered to come in within a few hours.

At this point he became annoyed and asked whether I could change the appointment. I said I’d call him back. I called him back and told him I could not change the time.

He then went into “we are offering you work”,” do you want the job”? mode.

I repeated my earlier offer to be there at a later time. He then went onto say “I think we may cut our losses with you”. He said he would call me again. I believe he is leaving the door open for his own convenience under the guise of “we are going to give you anther chance, are’nt we wonderful”?

I found his manner and use guilt, financial and emotional blackmail offensive and disturbing that it is still alive in the work place in 2011

Sadly, I need the money. So I may have to go back..

Sadly Michael, after this I do not think you will be on their Christmas list, let alone employment potential!
