Herring Island Summer Arts Festival

Australian bushland combined with Australian art - in Melbourne,

‘Contemporary by Nature’

as part of the Herring Island Summer Arts Festival 2011.

What you will see: an art gallery in a natural bushland setting. The Contemporary Art Society invites all lovers of art and nature to visit their 6th Exhibition on Herring Island, 'Contemporary by Nature'. View a range of artworks, including paintings, mixed media, drawings and sculpture, all by Society members.
Many innovative approaches in media and subject have been used, as they interpret the theme of contemporary art and nature.
There will also be a group mixed media installation on this theme, created on site in the gallery's courtyard by some of the exhibitors.
The official opening: Saturday 26 February, 12 noon to 2pm.

Gallery open: 26-27 February, 5-6 & 12-13 March, and Labour Day on 14 March.

Gallery hours: 12 noon to 5pm

Access to Herring Island is by the Parks Victoria punt, operating from 11.30am to 5pm from Como Landing (Melway Map 2M C2).

Costs: Punt Fees (return trip) are $2 per person, or $5 per family. Pensioners, unemployed and children under 12 travel free.

Free entrance to the Gallery.

After seeing the exhibition, take a walk through the natural bushland and permanent environmental sculpture trail on the island.
There are also undercover BBQ and public toilet facilities available.
