National Boer War Memorial

Re: Descendants of Boer War veteran

My great grandfather fought in many campaigns in his youth including the Bushveldte Carbineers of Breaker Morant fame, and I was pleased to recieve this letter from Robin.
Unfortunately I had misplaced it and only just found it recently.
If you have any interest in helping the association please do!

It will please you that at last some recognition is being given to the young
people who served in the Boer War. I hope you do not mind me contacting you about this My work with descendants of Victorian Bushmen who served, the National Boer War Memorial Association (Victorian Branch) has asked me to
notify you of the proposed Boer War Memorial to be built on Anzac Parade in
Canberra and to find out whether you might be interested in becoming involved
in a number of Boer War Commemorative activities.
The Association is trying to raise money for the memorial and if you would like to
be part of that activity then this is an opportunity to be so. However, if you
do not wish to be involved then there are a number of other things you might
like to participate in. One of the conditions I laid before the Victorian
Branch of the Association before I sent letters to descendants who had aided me
was that only I retain their address so that if they do not wish to be
committed to any action whatsoever, then that would be the last they would hear
of it.
I have enclosed a Descendants Data Base registration form which the National Boer
War Memorial Association (Victorian Branch) would like returned to the address
on the bottom of the form. It can also be sent to me if you wish and I will
forward it on. Remember, its completion is purely voluntary. But, please have
a look at it,
you might like to be involved in some of these activities. The Boer War Day on the 30th
May was an outstanding success and received a great deal of media publicity.
Many descendants took the opportunity to remember the sacrifice of their
ancestors in the Boer War and joined in a short march and service at the Shrine
in Melbourne. On Anzac Day more and more families who had a relative in the
Boer War are taking part in the famous march on the 25th April. Both
events had over 100 participants. Relatives were particularly thrilled to come
across others whose Boer war veteran had served in the same unit.
Please fill in what you might be comfortable with and the organizers will contact you
closer to the day and notify you of the arrangements for the occasion. Of
course if you do not wish to be involved in any activities but are quite
content to be registered as a descendent, then that would also be an option.
Yours sincerely,
Rob Droogleever
