Can you believe the front of these Austrian giants in their last ditch attempt to kill off a rather successful local competitor.
Red Bull are again taking on Aussie brand Red Eye Energy Drinks, owned by UB Natural, in the Federal Court to reverse a previuous judgement won by Red Eye giving them the right to use their name some years ago.
But Red Bull reckon they should own the stylised version of the word 'red' as used in the Red Bull logo, and therefore the word 'red', supposed to conjure up immediate images of their product in Australian consumer's minds.
This must be terrible news for Red Rooster, the Red Cross, Red Balloon gifts, Red Energy - the power company, the Red Frog Crew, Red, the movie website and uncountable other businesses who use this common usage discriptive word in a styised manner.
UB Natural director Theo Kotiadis knows he is in for a fight, as really, can Red Bull afford to fail? Let's hope so, as his company I know is built on an ethical business basis and was built from scratch to be one of Australia's best and liked energy drink.
Maybe I'll start a Fans of Red Eye page on Face Book and see what people think of this move by Red Bull.
There is a directions hearing set down for tomorrow.
