These Underbelly Files certainly highlight the fact that the Law only caught up with the deadset stupid or those that were given up by their peers!
MOST pot syndicates were dead set against any crew involved with heroin, it just wasn't cool!

Underbelly could have been a great education of the times, but it relies on the police evidence, other court records, and press coverage of some particular fellows they were stupid enough to attract that much attention! Greed and ego driven criminals, anathema to the core directive of most pot suppliers - a cheap, good smoke!
Many smokers thank the lack of police resources and intelligence of the times, most others may not, but this particular psychotropic, marijuana, has stamped itself on our society. At the time only acid (LSD) and other hallucinagens were acceptable with smokers, powders verbotten. Junkies and powder dealers were treated as the scum they turned into!
There were several other loose conglomerations of various ethnic derivative that succesfully supplied, what was honestly the worst pot on the planet, stalky, totally seeded, leaf and all from many farmers in SA, awful, smokers at the time had a plentiful supply of Thai Buddha, Afghani hash, Lebanese Red and Gold, Durban Poison, hash oil, etc, that this crap weed was never sought out other than during droughts of imports.
Unfortunately Griffith, and in SA, Virginia were corrupted with greed, not all, but Virginia and other areas still tried to maintain a dialogue with the hippies.
One might ask in, such a terrible criminal environment, why has the price of this demon weed not exponentially increased?
Why? Because it never, ever was about that...it is the most socially oligopalised 'illegal' product in our nation!
Still is, at the same price of more than 20 years ago, drugs on the other hand, speed, cocaine and heroin increase in price and the destruction of our society will continue unless we change our dialogue in regards to criminality versus the obvious health issues.
So much of the marijuana marketplace wasn't about criminals and police, more about those that can, and would do the doing, necessitating some type of victimless delivery system to pot smokers of the time!
These terrible times that are portayed in the Underbelly Files and movies should give us a salient warning that it is time to start dealing with the drug issue in an enlightened manner.
