ZEITGEIST - OK!

ZEITGEIST REALITY CHECK

...and I swore to myself I wouldn't go all Wikileaks and shit...nothing like a conspiracy theory though to get some hearts pumping...but this appeals to my Yippie core!

I have cut an extract from the Zeitgeist Movement Australia website to give you an idea about their ideals, most worthy as they are!

Synopsis

Fluid social change can only materialize if two circumstances are met.
First is the human value system which consists of our understandings and beliefs that are updated and changed through education and thoughtful introspection. The second is the environment surrounding the human value system which must also change inline with this new world view.

The interaction between a person’s value system and their environment is what influences human behavior.

In our culture, “ethics” really is a matter of degree as our social system promotes and rewards competition and self-interest. This perspective doesn’t just lead to aberrant behaviour, it creates it directly. Corruption has become the core foundation of our society and most people do not recognise this behaviour for what it is as it is hidden in many disguises. We now live in a society which nurtures and accepts this vile behaviour to the extent that  it is considered right and normal or as a matter of degree.

Further, there is a misguided perspective that has emerged where certain groups are deemed corrupt and everyone else is good. The age old ‘us and them’ ‘good and bad’ view has no basis empirically and again is all a matter of degree. Currently there is a large movement of people who constantly talk about The New World Order and encourage the notion that there is an elite group of people who have been trying to take over the world for a long time and have manipulated society in various ways to further their own goals.

This is undoubtedly true to an extent.
However they fail to see that this is not a group of people at all, but is simply the tendency of people to act in accordance with their environment.

If you removed all the people who are engaged in global hegemonic rule, it would simply be a matter of time before another group of people stepped in to fill their positions and further their same limited ambitions. Clearly it isn’t the individual people or groups that are the problem. It is the social environment which those people have been accustomed. Many may argue that it is ‘human nature’ that breeds competition and desire for dominance over others. No facts verify this. When we are born, we are clean slates and it is our social environment that shapes who we are and how we behave.

In order for true change to occur we must spend less time battling the products of this sick social structure and dedicate ourselves to the eradication of the root causes. As individuals and as a global society it easier to change the way in which we think and behave than to overthrow them. As difficult and daunting as it may be, it is the only way our world will change for the better.

We can continue to stomp on the ants coming out from under the refrigerator, but until we remove the spoiled food behind it, they are just going to keep coming. The possibilities of a fluid social change are at here, through exploring the benefits of a change in value systems and working towards a flourishing environment which supports the betterment of everybody.
